One of the most common hurdles incarcerated people face as they reintegrate back into society, is securing the one thing every human being has a fundamental right to have- housing in which to live. It is a widely accepted reality that nearly 62% of the 19,000 people being released from Arizona prisons annually don't know where they will live, don't have employment lined up after their release, and have little resources with which to better themselves. So instead, many fall back into the only life they know- the life that landed them in prison in the first place.
What this heartbreaking statistic means is simple- we are failing people. You always hear complaints about crime rates spiking and high levels of recidivism plaguing our perfect world, it's on seemingly every other news channel these days. But what you don't see, either by design or by negligence, is why this problem never seems to improve.Take a person who goes to prison for stealing cars or doing drugs- two very common crimes for which people are put in prison in Arizona. If the government does not help that individual overcome those behaviors and give them the tools they need to become a more productive and pro social human being, then why is it such a big surprise when (s)he is re-incarcerated after their release? Of course they are not going to better themselves if we don't provide them that option, and then assist and support them along their journey.
This pervasive and ever-growing problem is specifically what Bunki was created and designed to solve. We are a heart-led, people-over-profits transitional organization whose main mission is to provide post-incarceration housing, services, and programming options to help people successfully reintegrate into our society.
As individuals successfully complete their term of incarceration, instead of going back to the life and social circle with which they were once involved, they come to one of our fully furnished facilities and become part of a team that is committed to rethinking their lives, their values, and their futures. And they are heavily supported in this mission with a wide array of programs and social services geared specifically for their self-improvement. Not to mention a dedicated and caring staff to insure they feel valued, loved, and part of society- fundamental threads of humanity not afforded to them in prison.
And we are always looking for help. If you want to get involved and help shed a little light in this dark corner, then please click on the "Get Involved" tab at the top of the page and view current volunteer positions we have available. If providing services or assistance isn't an option for you right now, but you still want to help in some way, we are always looking for people to become an Angel by donating to our mission. Please click on the "Angels in Action" tab to give a loving donation today, and help rewrite the futures of potentially thousands of human beings.
